Letter to the Editor:
Sioux Lookout now has a palliative care volunteer program
We are so happy to announce that Sioux Lookout now has a palliative care volunteer program.
Dealing with chronic or terminal illness can be isolating for an individual and their families. The palliative care volunteer program can offer companionship to those clients as well as a much needed break for caregivers. The program is flexible as to what we can provide and is very easy to access.
The program is being run by Community Support Services in Sioux Lookout. There is no charge for this service and anyone can make a referral. The volunteers are trained to offer companionship and support at home, in the hospital, or extended care facilities, to individuals and families living with a chronic or life-limiting illness. We work with other caregivers to provide active, compassionate care when the goal is not cure.
If you are interested in volunteering or receiving visits please call Louise Froude at 737-3142. The volunteer training is about 30 hours and is free.
There is no greater privilege or honour than being allowed to share in another`s journey. It is about living well and with dignity to the end of your life.
