Memories & Celebrations of Life:
Obituary - Jack Sapay
June 15, 1926 - December 25, 2017
Jack departed for his eternal journey on the morning of December 25, 2017, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. He was supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life on Earth.
Jack lived a full life for 91 years. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed his favourite TV shows, and frequenting Intercity and Victoriaville Malls to see old friends, some who would be visiting from Sioux Lookout. Jack and Cecelia were always available for others, and were foster parents to many children.
Jack is survived by his wife, Cecelia Sapay of Thunder Bay; his sister Nora Goulais of Garden Village, Ontario; and his five children: Irene Sapay of Winnipeg, Nora (Frank) Ducasse of Dryden, Jim Sapay of Sioux Lookout, Mary “Aggie” (Michel) Trembley of Upsala, and David Sapay of Thunder Bay. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, grandparents; son, Jacky “Sonny” Sapay in 1965; and sister, Sarah Wesley
At Jack’s request, there will not be a funeral service. Cremation has already taken place, and the family will scatter the ashes at a later date and time.
The family would like to extend gratitude to the nursing staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their superb care and support throughout this challenging time.
Jack battled diabetes for over 40 years. He was a tough man who showed great strength right up to the end. He passed his gifts of resilience and determination to his children and his grandchildren. Jack will be remembered for his laughter, his generosity, and his passion for life. He has passed many of these qualities on to his children as well - a legacy that will continue to live on.
