Busy Blueberry Festival for the Friends of Cedar Bay

The Friends of Cedar Bay hosted four events during this year’s Blueberry Festival.
The Spirit of Cedar Bay Art Contest took place throughout the festival. Participants were asked to create a piece of artwork showcasing what Cedar Bay means to them.
Winners were: First Prize - Norah Laverty with a water colour painting of skiers, Second Prize - Ruth Broderick with a beautiful night scene, Third Prize - Jesse Landgraff with a colourful birch and clover scene. Kayla Bonello received an honourable mention for the busy bee she created.
People can view the artwork by visiting the Friends of Cedar Bay Facebook page.
People were also able to visit the Sioux Lookout Public Library’s YouTube channel for Cedar Bay Talks, “to watch local naturalists talk about and show the wonders of nature to be seen in and around Cedar Bay,” according to the event’s description.
Children and their families were invited to walk down to the Cedar Bay Lakeshore throughout the week of the festival, taking note of wildlife and plants they observed along the way.
Timpson said the event was extremely popular with 75 people walking the trail to the lakeshore on just the first day of the event.
Cedar Bay Stables presented The Unicorn Hunt on August 6. Cedar Bay’s escaped “unicorn” took the opportunity between noon and 1 p.m. to tour the community and post photos of her time out on social media.
Anyone lucky enough to find the unicorn and have their photo taken with her was entered into a prize draw.
“I was very proud of the members for creating those events. They were very well attended and we got great feedback,” Timpson concluded.
