OPTA Poker Derby
Les Cosco, President OPTA
Once again this year the Ojibway Power Toboggan Association’s annual Poker Derby was a success.
The weather was excellent and we had a total of 110 riders that participated in the event.
Snowmobilers from Red Lake, Ignace, Dryden, Atikokan, and Minnesota as well as local riders came out to the derby this year. The 75 km route led riders around the L701 and "A" trail "Hudson Loop" with a stop for lunch at check point number three at the Lost Lake Drop in Centre.
The winning hands in the derby were tied this year, with Greg Olson and Rhonda Bailey both drawing the same cards with a straight. First place was decided with a cut of the cards and Greg Olson drawing the winning card.
1st place Greg Olson - $1128
2nd place Rhonda Bailey - $376
3rd place Kevin Elliott - $376
All of the participants and club members were treated to a dinner, silent auction, live dessert auction and garage party at the clubhouse after the poker derby. This year we also held our annual snowmobile draw at the clubhouse garage party.
This year’s winner of the 2020 Skidoo snowmobile is Sheila Suprovich
2nd prize Tim Husak - $300
3rd Prize Glen Poirier - $200
The OPTA would like to thank all of the many sponsors that donated to the event, the silent auction, and the dessert auction. Your continued support and generosity is greatly appreciated.
The money raised at this event and the snowmobile draw will be used in the future to purchase tools and equipment to help our hard working volunteers maintain the 250km of trails our club is responsible for in our area.
A special thank you to all of our volunteers that helped organize and run this event, the snowmobile draw, and all the crews that set up and maintain the trails we all enjoy.
