Ninety-one riders took part in the Ojibway Power Toboggan Association’s (OPTA) annual Poker Derby on February 3.
OPTA board member Mike Starratt shared, “The Poker Derby route followed The Hudson-Sioux Loop which is about 70 kilometres.”
The Poker Derby route included stops at the Ojibway Park warm-up shelter, the Hudson Senior Centre for lunch, Birthday Island in Italian Bay, and a final check-in at the OPTA clubhouse.
“This is one of our annual fundraising events for the club with a very successful turnout of participants… given the cold temperature,” Starratt said.
Participants braved near minus 30 degree Celsius temperatures on their ride.
First place in the Poker Derby, with a full house, was Herb Roehrig.
Second place, with a flush, was Mark Ridgway.
Third place, with three queens, was Todd Shields.
A social at the Legion rounded out the day.
This year’s Poker Derby was organized by Tracey Ellek, Gina McFee-Bernier, and Suzanne Favot.
The draw for the OPTA’s annual snowmobile raffle took place during the social.
The winner of the 2018 SKI-DOO MXZ 600 Renegade was Steve Dumonski.
Bob Weaver won a cash prize of $300, while Dale Oakley won a cash prize of $200.
